It acts as a digital equivalent of a registered letter (doporučená zásilka) and is legally recognized for official correspondence.
Using a Datová schránka is a modern, reliable, and convenient way to manage official communication in the Czech Republic, reducing the need for paper mail and in-person visits.

Who Must Have a Datová schránka


  • Legal entities registered in the Commercial Register
  • Self-employed individuals (OSVČ) — mandatory since 2023
  • Private individuals — optional (voluntary)

Purpose of a Datová schránka


The Czech Data Mailbox is used for:
  • Communicating with tax authorities, social security, and health insurance offices
  • Receiving official notifications, decisions, and court documents
  • Submitting applications, complaints, reports, and requests online
  • Signing and sending contracts with an electronic signature
  • Communication between Datová schránka users (e.g., company ↔ client)

How to Register a Datová schránka


  • Visit a Czech POINT office — located at post offices or municipal offices. Check the nearest location using the interactive Czech POINT map.

  • Request a Datová schránka — fill and sign the application (žádost o zřízení datové schránky). You will receive activation instructions by email or in person (do vlastních rukou).

  • Activate your mailbox — follow instructions and log in at mojedatovaschranka.cz. Change your password and set up free email notifications to avoid missing messages.

  • Enable notifications — choose between:

  1. Standard notifications — informs about new messages only
  2. Extended notifications — provides sender and subject details (recommended)

How to Access Your Datová schránka


  • Via mojedatovaschranka.cz
  • Using e-Identita or through Czech POINT
  • With your username and password issued during registration

Important Notes


  • Incoming messages are stored for 90 days free (longer storage available for a fee)
  • Correspondence with government authorities is free
  • For communication with companies or individuals, use Poštovní datová zpráva (PDZ)
